Trip to Bruce Museum

Thursday, July 26, 2018 is the date that ILR will learn about ANIMALS. We are headed to the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT. This museum is one of the lucky institutions that had been vying, along with many in the United States, to obtain this exhibit. It is the National Geographic Photo Ark: the photographer aims to protect animals by documenting every species. Can it be done?

National Geographic photographer JOEL SARTORE says "Yes", and has committed his life to this project. The Photo Ark is an ambitious project committed to documenting every species in the world, from every zoo and wild areas, hoping to help protect these animals for future generations and to hope that people care about the disappearance of so many. When completed it will be the largest single archive of studio-quality photographs of biodiversity ever compiled.

After seeing this exhibit we will visit the work of Artist/Muralist Richard Haas. He won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1983, was inducted into the National Endowment of Arts in 1987, the National Academy of Design in 1993 and was its President as well. It is said that Mr. Haas has taken a European tradition and translated it into an American expression, given his own unique sensibility. He brings a sense of humor to his realistic style of work, as well as an historic and artistic vision. His murals can be seen all over the USA. AND,

Following these outstanding docent-led viewings we will head to Stamford to a great restaurant for a hearty lunch. We will meet at 9:00 am, meeting place to be announced two weeks before trip.
