Anderson PhD, Elijah

Elijah Anderson PhD is the Sterling Professor of Sociology and of African American Studies at Yale University. He is one of the leading ethnographers in the U.S. His publications include Code of the Street; Decency, Violence and the Moral Life of the Inner City: Streetwise: Race, Class, & Change in an Urban Community; A Place on the Corner and most recently, The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race & Civility in Everyday Life.

Professor Anderson is the recipient of two prestigious awards from the American Sociological Association — the 2013 Cox-Johnson Frazier Award and the W.E. Dubois Career of Distinguished Scholarship Award.  Dr. Anderson has served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Political and Social Science and the American Sociological Association. He has also served as a consultant to a variety of government agencies, including the White House, U.S. Congress and the National Academy of Science.
